Objectives
This research-based course in economic and human geography addresses the concepts and theories of globalization and green economies, and how these structures and changes affect society and economic activities on different scales.
Content
It has a particular emphasis on the conditions for globalization and the ¿greening¿ of the economy, understood as the structures and processes related to environment, energy and climate challenges. The geographical focus is on communities, cities and regions, as well as on how individuals, firms and institutions are interlinked and affected. The lectures will combine theoretical and empirical examples with academic literature based on research from Norway as well as other countries including some of the ongoing research at the department.

On completion of the course the student should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

- has thorough insight about core concepts and theoretical discussion regarding globalization and green economy and the interaction between the two.
Skills
The student
- is capable to plan and give a presentation on a specified research question including theory and empirical evidence from secondary sources linked to the main topic of the course.
General competence
The student
- has thorough insight to understand the conditions, processes and effects regarding the geographies of globalization and the green economy and the interaction between these two processes and their effects.
- can present and discuss research questions in relation to business, planning, governance, sustainability and the green economy.

Open for students at Master¿s level who meets the prerequisites.
GEO324 is a special topic course and may be included as one of the special topic courses in the coursework requirement for Master¿s Programme in Geography.
Arbeids- og undervisningsformer
1 lecture per week
3-4 lectures a 2 hours
2 lecture sessions organized as seminars á 4 hours
Obligatorisk undervisningsaktivitet
Preparation and active participation with presentations and discussions at all seminars. Mandatory work requirements are only valid for the semester in which they are fulfilled and accepted.
Vurderingsformer
Written exam, 5 hours.
