Mål og innhald

This Module explores the foundations of health promotion theory, practice and research, originated in the WHO Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion. Students are encouraged, through multiple learning methods, to develop an understanding of the conceptual, theoretical and philosophical frameworks that underpin health promotion. The course also informs students about on going health promotion research at the University of Bergen, to assist students in identifying thesis research advisors and topics.

Undervisningsformer og omfang av organisert undervisning

Four learning methods comprise the structure of the Module: Master Lectures, a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) component, the writing of a Module Paper, and the completion of required reading, including the compilation of an Annotated Bibliography covering all reading.

Vurderingsformer

Student performance will be appraised by Module Directors using a mix of methods, which may include written assignments, written or oral examinations, assessment of performance in the classroom, and the quality of contribution to group work.

Students must submit their documents using the Internet facility `Mi Side¿ and `Kark¿; no paper will be used in this Module except for presentation handouts. All written feedback on assignments will be via the Internet facility.

 

Litteraturliste

The University library subscribes to all the major scientific journals in the health promotion arena. The university library has excellent, free access to online sources of scholarly literature.

The Module Director¿s personal library is available to students. It contains about 600 books and monographs on health promotion and related topics.

Students are expected to manage literature using the software that is provided free of charge by the University. Printing of articles and book chapters is discouraged.

Emneevaluering

The two Class Representatives will conduct a qualitative evaluation of the module after its completion, with the cooperation of all students.
