Mål og innhald

Celebrities have a huge cultural, social and economic importance to today's post-modern society, for individuals and for the media itself. Much of today's journalistic circles, in different ways, about celebrities of all kinds, while journalism contributes greatly to creating celebrities. Research on celebrities, culture and journalism is a field of research that emerged in the 1990s and is highly expansive. Research on celebrities and its cultural and other values occurs within various media fields, from politics and literature to movies, sports and other popular culture. The course is linked to this research and provides an introduction to the research field. It will deal with various forms of celebrity journalism in a variety of media, including social media, have a historical perspective on celebrity journalism's development and include both production (celebrity journalism, political economy), text analysis (discourses, the relationship between written text and image) and consumption (reception and user studies).

Krav til forkunnskapar

Bachelor´s degree in media studies or equivalent.

Krav til studierett

Master students in Media Studies. Other master students and exchange students may apply for admission.

Undervisningsformer og omfang av organisert undervisning

Teaching takes place in the form of combined lectures and seminars.

Obligatorisk undervisningsaktivitet

Present the reading of parts of the curricula. Present their own small study of celebrity journalism. This will take the form of group work.

Vurderingsformer

An essay written during the semester.

Karakterskala

The grading system has a descending scale from A to E for passes and F for fail.
