MUG105 - emnerapport 2008 vår

Faglærers vurdering av gjennomføring

Praktisk gjennomføring

The course consisted of a total of 14 meetings: 1 information meeting, 10 regular lectures, and 3 seminars in which the students orally presented their semester projects. The exam consisted of an assignment portfolio with three assignments. The 10 regular lectures were all based on Powerpoint presentations with audio and video examples. Because of the high number of exchange students, with varying levels of English, I think having the lecture outline on Powerpoint slides was a useful tool.

Strykprosent og frafall

13 students were registered for the exam. Of these, 10 students actually took the exam (mappevurdering), including 2 who took the course in Spring 2008 but took the exam in Fall 2008. 9 of the 13 students were foreign exchange students, representing 4 countries, including Spain, China, Germany and Italy. The other 4 students were Norwegian students, 3 from GA and 1 from Religionsvitenskap.

The one student who failed the course did so because she turned in a paper that was mostly copied from the Internet (what I call a “wiki-paper”).

Studieinformasjon og dokumentasjon

A copy of the study plan for the class plus the full schedule for the course (lecture topics, assigned reading and listening for each lecture, paper assignment descriptions and due dates) was passed out at the information meeting at the beginning of the semester. The study plan was also available on the StudentPortal.

Tilgang til relevant litteratur

Required and recommended textbooks were ordered at Studia, and copies were also put on reserve at the Grieg Academy Library. It continues to be a problem that Studia starts its ordering process for Spring books too late in the Fall, with the result that the books are not available until several weeks after teaching has already started in the Spring.

Faglærers vurdering av rammevilkårene

Lokaler og undervisningsutstyr

Lokaler/undervisningsutstyr /: OK. The class was taught in a room in Sydneshaugen skole. The data projector and sound system worked OK. Would be nice, however, if I could teach in one of the classrooms in the GA (room 206) so I wouldn’t have to carry all that stuff (computer, musical instruments, books, papers, etc.) up the hill every week. Room 206 has a good data projector and sound system in it, so it would be good if I could use them. This would also help make students from outside GA who take the class more conscious of the fact that it is a GA class.

Metode - gjennomføring

At the end of the next-to-last class meeting I distributed a questionnaire to the students present. I designated one student to collect the questionnaires, put them in an envelope, and return them to my mailbox. Then I left the room and allowed the students to fill them out anonymously. I repeated this same procedure during the last class meeting with the students who had not been there the previous week. See below for summary of the results.

Oppsummering av innspill

Studentene hadde flest positive meninger om kurset - 5 eller 6 på skala av 1-6. De likte spesielt muligheten til å velge egen oppgavenes temaer (innen rammer spesifisert av læreren).
